One day, I walked into class, and my instructor Peggy asked if I had an honors project lined up. I didn’t, and without missing a beat, she exclaimed, “I have one for you! Finn needs a project too, and I’m currently obsessed with the Landa.” Just as she said this, Finn walked in, and we all quickly agreed to dive into a research project about this incredible machine.

Fast forward a week: Finn and I found ourselves at the PIA Golf outing, chatting with Lou, the President of PIA, about our project. He posed the question, “Do you want to see one in person?” Naturally, we both shouted, “Yes!” But we soon learned that the nearest Landa machine was all the way in California. Undeterred, Lou turned to Peggy and said, “Let’s make this trip happen. Gather some students, and we’ll turn it into a full event.”

While plans were unfolding, Lou helped Peggy arrange a Zoom call with Bill from Landa, allowing us to ask every question we had after digging deep into our research. I still can’t believe we had that incredible opportunity!

When I say this was a right place, right time, life-changing moment, I truly mean it. Had I said no at any point along the way, my life could have taken a completely different direction—I’m not exaggerating.

A month later, I found myself standing in front of a $4 million digital nanographic press—totally geeking out over a machine I never thought I’d see in person.

I’m eternally grateful to the Landa representative at Advantage ColorGraphics, the dedicated workers there, Tom, Lou, PIA, Bill, Peggy, and Finn for being the best research partner. This trip was truly the cherry on top of an already incredible journey.

If little Kristy—whether last year, four years ago, or even further back—knew what we were up to now, she wouldn’t believe it. I’m honestly overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion for this trip and the opportunities it has presented.
